Home from the Hospital

Thanks for everyone's continued prayers for Bailey and her recovery. For those who don't know, we've had a whirlwind of a 3 day Easter Holiday. Bailey got sick on Friday morning with what we thought was a stomach virus. We called the vet, and they told us to hold food and water for 24 hrs and see if she improves. Saturday morning she seemed to be feeling better and tolerated some chicken and rice. By the afternoon she was vomiting again and very lethargic. We took her to an emergency vet. to get checked out. She was dehydrated and had elevated liver labs. They were able to rehydrate her and send us home with medication. Sunday morning, she was not doing well at all, not even able to keep water down. We caught a church service on tv and took her back to the vet. They took x-rays and basically told us she was in liver failure and that she needs an emergency ultrasound to determine what is going on.

SO...we went to UPenn Vet. Hosp. in Philly, praying the way there that they could help her in time. We were very lucky and got there just before the crowd. They started her on fluids and were able to do the ultrasound. We were surprised to hear that her liver was FINE, and that she had a linear foreign body object that went from her stomach into her intestines. They called in the surgeon and she was in surgery within the hour. We were so realeaved that they were able to help her so quickly and that it was a routine surgery. UPenn did a great job and very glad God led us there. It was hard to figure out what Bailey ate, since it had probably been in her stomach for several weeks. What they found was a red plasic twine type material about 7 in long, along with long pieces of grass. We aren't sure where she found this, but needless to say our house is now clutter free so she never had to go through this again! We are also very thankful she has health insurance which is paying the majority of her bills!

She is home recovering now and happy to be with her family. She got a new frog stuffed animal when we picked her up at the hospital and has been carrying around where ever she goes!
